Instructions for Summer Project

  • Create and make a homemade instrument.

Here are websites with ideas and instruments you can make.

           Homemade Instruments

           Homemade instrument video

           Homemade instrument video

Your instrument does not have to come from this website. Be creative and use your own ideas!!

  • Once you have finished making your instrument you will write a short description on an index card of how the sound is produced on your instrument. Your description should include materials that you used and any challenges you had in making your inustrument.

  • Open the Tune Lite app on your Smartphone or Ipad. At this time you will play only one note on your homemade instrument and write down on your index card what note the Tune Lite app indicates. If your homemade instrument is a drum or percussion instrument, you may disregard this step.

  • At this time you will open up the Finale Notepad program on your computer. When you are prompted to enter a Title, you may enter "Student Project" or come up with your own title. Type in your name for Composer. If you made a drum or percussion instrument, you will select "Percussion" on the instrument menu. For all other instruments you will select "Blank Staff." Please use the tutorials in the Help menu if you have questions on these steps.

  • You are now ready to create a four measure song for your homemade instrument that only includes quarter notes and quarter rest in any order. You will use the one note your played earlier that was written down from the Tune Lite app.

Here are two examples of what your song should look like on Finale Notepad. You are NOT allowed to use these examples for your project!

  • When you have finished your four measure song you will print it out.

  • You will now open the Metronome app and set it at 100.

  • Open the Voice Recorder Lite app to record your song. This app and the Metronome app will run at the same time. Save your recording.

If you followed the instructions correctly, you should have the following:

  • a homemade instrument of your choice

  • a short description on a index card of how your instrument produces sound and the note that you used for your song

  • a printed copy of your four measure song in 4/4 time using only quarter notes and quarter rest

  • a recording of your song

DEADLINE!!!: You will give a presentation to the class of your project during the second week of school when we retrun from summer. You will demonstrate your homemade instrument and play your recording for the class.

You will be graded using the following rubric:

HAVE A GREAT SUMMER EVERYONE AND WE WILL SEE YOU IN AUGUST!!
